“In the main I think Lazio have a great support. There are always a minority who want to overshadow the game and make noise for the wrong reasons and put a stain on the game.“I’m hoping that’s not going to be the case tomorrow night. I’m hoping that at the end of the game we’re talking about a great atmosphere between two great sides, playing in a great game of football.”Lazio’s ban is amongst a spate of racist incidents in the game recently, with England’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria marred by abuse from the stands. Lennon said something had to be done to quell the rise and that players had to be protected.“There’s an underbelly now of racism not just in Italy but we’re seeing it in Eastern Europe as well,” he said. “We want to eradicate that as quickly as possible. “I have a duty of care to my players and I want them protected. They’re here to play football and it doesn’t matter the colour of their skin or their background, they’re here to play for Celtic.“As far as we’re concerned we’re a club open to everybody.“Mr Stein was right, football is nothing without the supporters. The most important people in football are the ones who play football and the ones who pay at the gate to come and support the team.”Celtic are top of Group G after two games, one ahead of the Serie A side and hoping to extend that advantage and boost their chances of making the knockout stages. “I think it’s a great game for all the fans to look forward to, and certainly the players,” Lennon said.“We’ve made a great start to the group, we’re playing very well and off the back of a great victory at the weekend, the anticipation is building for this game.“It’s hopefully going to be one of those great European nights here at Celtic Park.“It’s a key game because it’s the next one. The group is tight.“Anything can happen and the group can turn very quickly either way. If we were to win it then fantastic but if we were to lose it wouldn’t be a disaster but we’re positive about things and we’re hoping to get a positive result from the game.” Celtic boss Neil Lennon hopes the Europa League match against Lazio at Celtic Park is a “celebration of football” and free from the ugly scenes that saw the Italian side forced to shut a section of their ground.UEFA brought charges against Lazio for the racist behaviour of part of their support and have imposed a partial ground closure for the visit of the Scottish champions next month. All eyes will be on the travelling fans in Glasgow on Thursday night but Lennon hoped the positive side of the game could take precedence and fans would leave having seen a game worth remembering. He said: “I’m hoping tomorrow is a celebration of football between two great clubs.

7 February 2011A rain delay in the final of the SA Tennis Open at Montecasino in Johannesburg proved to be no obstacle to South Africa’s Kevin Anderson in his pursuit of the cup and the US$442 500 (nearly R3.2-million) pay cheque.Anderson faced India’s Somdev Devvarman, who refused to give up without a fight. 19 October 2012 The government will require the support of investors to realise the speedy implementation of South Africa’s proposed mega infrastructure programme, President Jacob Zuma said on Friday. Zuma was speaking at the Presidential Infrastructure Investment Conference in Johannesburg, where a memorandum of understanding to take the infrastructure roll-out plan forward was signed between different ministers and potential investors. Zuma told the gathering that infrastructure development was a catalyst to sustainable economic development, job creation and poverty alleviation. The infrastructure plan, announced by the government in February, is expected to guide the construction of new infrastructure while speeding up current projects that support economic growth.18 strategic integrated projects It proposes 18 strategic integrated projects (SIPs) covering more than 150 specific infrastructure interventions, ranging across rail, road, ports, dams, irrigation systems, sanitation and energy. Some of the projects are already commissioned. They include the Dube Trade Port in Durban as well as the expansion of the Port of Ngqura in the Eastern Cape. Zuma said the summit was about the crucial role of partnerships on infrastructure development in the present and future South Africa. He urged investors to take advantage of and support the plan. The costs of the 18 strategic projects are estimated at about R4-trillion over the next 15 years. The government is expected to contribute R844-billion of the R1.3-trillion needed for the projects over the next three yearsPrivate sector support needed Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, also addressing the conference, said the government, with the support of the private sector, wanted to make the plans a reality. “We need their support for the projects included in the plan to be a success. The projects cannot be financed solely through domestic savings … we need the support of other development institutions, banks as well as other partners,” Motlanthe said. Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel told reporters on Friday that the government was committed to mobilising public funds to speed up the progamme, but pointed out that the private sector would have to play its role. “Construction needs money, it needs minds … so there has to be co-investment; we have to ensure there is coordination between private sector investment and public sector investment.” Patel said the infrastructure programme would provide long-term opportunities for both the state and the private sector. “Investors clearly do want to be part of these opportunities, and so if you look at the long-term demand, including commodity demand over the next 15 to 20 years … what government is doing now in the short term will help create a conducive environment for investment in the long term.”Crucial jobs driver The country’s New Growth Path sets a target of five-million new jobs by 2020, and the government believes that infrastructure development will be a crucial jobs driver. Zuma said the parties had been identified to be part of the conference because they were “crucial stakeholders with whom government can forge a partnership to enhance the implementation of the country’s long-term infrastructure plan”. Zuma said the government had paid special attention to the lessons learnt from building infrastructure for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. That experience should be used to build new infrastructure crucial to the economic development of the country. “We all have proud recollections of how we managed to build stadiums, roads and refurbished airports ahead of the World Cup. We must use that project management experience to change our country’s landscape and improve living conditions while growing the economy.” This would include prioritising skills development, public and private investment as well as creating the right environment for economic growth. A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit The next phase of Reddit’s war against the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) will begin next week when the social news community will black out its website for a period of 12 hours. In place of Reddit’s user-ranked news and lively conversations will be commentary and information about SOPA, as well as video of congressional testimony about the proposed legislation. This is just Reddit’s latest strike against SOPA, a topic that has been front-and-center on the site for months now. Its community of users have turned the discussion into a type of digital activism, launching a successful boycott campaign against GoDaddy and rallying support for candidates running against pro-SOPA politicians. How effective will the blackout be? To be sure, Reddit has massive traffic. The site delivered over 2 billion pageviews in December and has seen its traffic double within the last year. At the same time, it’s hard to imagine that too many people who visit Reddit on a regular basis don’t know what SOPA is or are unaware of the arguments against it. Those have been plastered all over Reddit’s front page for quite some time, and the site’s anti-SOPA activity has been the subject of widespread media coverage (a fact that probably contributed to their December traffic explosion). For a healthy percentage of people who try to navigate to Reddit on January 18, the notion that SOPA poses a threat to the Internet as we know it won’t exactly be breaking news. Getting More Big Players on BoardTo truly stir up the masses, bigger players like Facebook or Google would need to make some kind of tangible anti-SOPA move, even if it’s just a brief homepage takeover or light box with a brief message. Sites of that magnitude (and that reliant on advertising dollars) are unlikely to actually black their services out for a day, but saying a few words about SOPA would at least get the attention of everyday, non-geek people who have never heard of Reddit. Imagine if every WordPress.com blog went dark for a day or if the admin panel included a message about SOPA as Tumblr has already done. Given the makeup of Reddit’s community and the role the site has already played in anti-SOPA activism, it may actually be the perfect place to try out such an experiment, generating just enough additional awareness without alienating too many existing users. If successful, perhaps the model would expand to other sites. Wikipedia is just one major website that’s considering participating in this style of protest against SOPA. Lalit ModiThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday suspended Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) soon after controversial cricket administrator Lalit Modi was declared elected as its president. The decision was taken by BCCI interim president Shivlal Yadav in the light of a provision in the Supreme Court order that allowed the world’s richest cricket board take action against the RCA.The BCCI has also decided to issue a show cause notice to the RCA over the contentious election held in December last year. It would now appoint an ad hoc committee to take care of Rajasthan cricket affairs until a full-fledged state body takes charge.Earlier in the day, Modi was declared the winner of the president’s election held on December 19. An SC bench had on April 30 directed the election officer of RCA elections to declare the results on Tuesday. However, it had allowed the BCCI to challenge the controversial Rajasthan Sports Act, 2005 that enabled Modi to contest for the RCA president’s post for a second time.
