Sherman Oaks motorist arrested in hit-run fatality

first_imgA 21-year-old Sherman Oaks woman was arrested in the hit-and-run death of a motorcyclist on the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said today. The crash occurred about 10:40 p.m. Thursday, north of Highland Avenue, CHP Officer J. Miller said. The unidentified suspect abandoned her 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo near the crash scene and was driven home by another motorist, Miller said. The ensuing investigation led to her overnight arrest, Miller said. Officers believe the woman, who suffered minor injuries, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, Miller said. Paramedics took the motorcyclist to a hospital, where he died. Authorities withheld the name of the 33-year-old Palmdale until his family could be notified. According to the preliminary investigation, the Chevrolet hit the motorcycle in the No. 3 lane, and struck the center divider, where it was hit by a 2006 Toyota Solara. The 28-year-old Los Angeles woman driving the Toyota was unhurt. Witnesses said the suspect’s car crashed into a light pole as its driver was trying to exit the freeway on the Highland Avenue offramp after the accident. The woman then flagged down a passing motorist and rode off in that vehicle, they said.
