The announcement was made at the Opening Night of State Theatre Company’s The 39 Steps on Tuesday 23 August.Qatar Airways, which launched its international flights to Adelaide in May this year, has committed to support State Theatre Company both through facilitating international collaborations and supporting productions in Adelaide in 2016, 2017 and 2018.“Qatar Airways’ sponsorship of State Theatre Company is a natural extension of our commitment to the people of Adelaide and South Australia. As we continue to grow our presence in the South Australian market, this multi-year partnership with the state’s flagship professional theatre company provides us the opportunity to further engage with the community and art-lovers alike. We also look forward to taking the State Theatre Company to greater heights in the international arena, leveraging our strength as a global connector to facilitate partnerships between State Theatre Company and the rest of the world,” said Qatar Airways Country Manager for Australasia, Adam Radwanski.The partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to offering experiences of the highest quality and promoting Adelaide as an international destination for artists and art-lovers. It also reflects State Theatre Company’s burgeoning international connections, particularly through Qatar Airways’ support for State Theatre Company’s coproduction with UK theatre company Frantic Assembly of Things I Know To Be True, a South Australian story that will have its UK premiere in September. This is the Company’s second international collaboration in two years and follows up the hugely successful tour of its coproduction with Windmill Theatre of Pinocchio to New York last year and aligns with the State Government’s active promotion of arts exports.State Theatre Company Executive Director/Producer Rob Brookman said, “Partnering with Qatar Airways was a natural fit. The airline will also be able be provide a variety of interesting hospitality options for its partners and guests.The news follows the announcement on 23 August of Qatar Airways’ three-year sponsorship of the Sydney Swans as official airline partner, its first major sports sponsorship deal in Australia and its first foray into the AFL.Now in its 19th year of operations, Qatar Airways has become one of the fastest growing carriers in the world.
