More Talgo work for RENFE

first_imgSPAIN: RENFE’s Integria rolling stock maintenance business is to build Talgo rolling stock for other operators under an agreement signed with the train builder on June 16. Running for a term of 14 years from 2009, the agreement should guarantee 1 150 000 h of work for the Integria sites at Valladolid and Málaga, which will be responsible for mechanical and electrical assembly, painting, inspection and testing.As part of an order for 10 gauge-changing trainsets for overnight services placed by RENFE with Talgo in 2005 (RG 7.05 p395), the Integria workshops at Málaga have rolled out the first of five formations that they will assemble. Capable of operating at up to 220 km/h, each 10-car trainset has a total of 98 sleeping berths and 136 reclining seats, as well as restaurant car and a bar car. They are to be deployed first on routes from Barcelona to Cádiz and Málaga, followed in 2009 by services to Granada, Gijón and Galicia.Málaga is also producing seven Class 130 gauge-changing trainsets (14 power cars and 77 trailers) as well as 14 Class 112 sets (28 power cars and 168 trailers). A total of 30 Class 112 and 16 Class 102 trainsets are to be maintained by the Tarvia joint venture of RENFE< and Talgo (which owns 49%), due to commence operations at the start of 2009.last_img read more

Calls for PNG Weightlifting Federation bosses to step down

first_imgMembers of the two Hanuabada weightlifting clubs have come together demanding that the PNG Weightlifting Federation interim administration step down.The reason is that there has not been an annual general meeting for the past five years since the interim administration was set up, they say.They questioned why the current administration had been continuing  for the past five years but had not held any AGMs since they took over as the interim committee.Weightlifting champion Dika Toua called on the interim administration to step down or there would not  be any weightlifting in PNG.She said the two clubs that she and Steven Kari are members of have been used in the past years and have no representation in the PNGWF.“These are the only two clubs that have produced elite athletes representing PNG,” she said.Toua said that as the weightlifting national coach, it was not fair that the coaching staff had no say in the selection process.“As an athlete who had been appointed as a national coach, I’m disappointed that I’m not part of the selection process.“The coaching staff train the athletes and we do programs for them. We also have club coaches training the athletes but we don’t have inputs in the selections so we’ve had enough,” she said.She said they had been training elite athletes for many years without the support of the government and the federation when it came to facilities.Loop PNG is yet to get a response from the PNGWF.Meantime, the clubs thanked major sponsor Trukai Industries for their support throughout the years.last_img read more
