[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]OAKLAND – The Warriors took a big step forward in securing a home-court advantage in the playoffs with yet another offensive surge in the second half, keyed by a stifling defense.More importantly, Golden State put some more distance between itself and a possible first-round matchup against Memphis – one of only two teams to have beaten coach Steve Kerr’s squad more than once this season.Klay Thompson scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half and the Warriors pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Grizzlies, 106-94, on Sunday for their seventh straight win.”We just picked up our intensity,” Kerr said. ”Most of the second half, I thought our defense was much better. That fueled our offense a little bit. When we can get stops and get out and run and hit a couple of 3-pointers, that really gives our team a good charge.”Stephen Curry added 21 points and 11 assists, Andre Iguodala scored 20 and Draymond Green had nine points and seven rebounds as the Warriors (59-14) extended their lead to 2 1/2 games over the San Antonio Spurs in the race for the top spot in the West. The win did more than keep Golden State in front of San Antonio. It also kicked off a stretch of five games in eight days when the Warriors will face playoff contenders Houston (twice), San Antonio and Washington.”At this point in the season and the playoff teams that we have coming up, it gets you into that focus mode,” Curry said. ”It’s a good warmup for us to understand how important each game is, each possession is, and not look ahead. That’s playoff mentality.” ”We did a great job of running them off the 3-point line, helping out on Z-Bo (Randolph) in the post and flying around,” Thompson said. First, however, there was the matter of getting his work permit, which he now has, thanks to his 16 caps for Venezuela and a bunch of loans, and there was hope he could finally establish himself at Vicarage Road three years after his arrival. However, a move to Eupen in Belgium was arranged late on in the summer transfer window to get him the regular football Javi Gracia couldn’t promise at Watford. It began well enough, with the player appearing in the starting XI for the first four games before disappearing completely, only to reappear once for seven minutes in a 1-0 loss to Zulte Waregem towards the end of November.Speaking to Meridiano on Instagram Live, the player explained what happened.Embed from Getty ImagesHe said: “I didn’t like some of the exercises the manager had put in place at Eupen in training sessions. They seemed pointless to me and after that discussion, he didn’t call me up anymore. I regretted that action, and I went to see him like a man to apologise”.However, with just six appearances to his name in the first half of the season, he was swiftly sent back to Watford after asking the Eupen manager to let him leave (he accepted), where he was meant to feature under Nigel Pearson. He told Meridiano that ‘at his return to Watford, he met up with the manager, who told him he was counting on him, but he first needed to get back in shape having gone a month without training’.Unfortunately for Peñaranda, the Covid-19 pandemic stopped all that in its tracks, and he’ll now have to wait longer to see if he can finally break through long term in the Hornets’ squad.by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameIf You Like to Play, this City-Building Game is a Must-Have. Joe Faraoni / ESPN Images(WASHINGTON) — Facing a growing boycott by Philadelphia Eagles players refusing to visit the White House Tuesday, President Trump decided to disinvite the Super Bowl champions and throw a celebration of the National Anthem instead, administration officials tell ABC News.Over the course of the last several days, many Eagles players have been backing out of attending the traditional presidential Super Bowl celebration because of Trump’s controversial comments about the NFL and players who have staged protests during the anthem. The president chose to change the nature of the event in light of the boycott, one official said.“He found having a smaller group come to the White House to be unsatisfactory,” the official told ABC.In an unusual move, Trump himself issued a statement Monday evening.“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” the statement said.“The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better. These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony—one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem. I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus to celebrate America.”Eagles fans who RSVPd can still come to Tuesday’s event but no one from the Philadelphia team or management will be attending, the source confirmed.Asked if any players were still invited to come to the White House, the official replied: “If they all decide to stand [for the anthem], we would be open to having that conversation.”Wide receiver Torrey Smith, who was part of the Eagles winning team but has since been traded to Carolina Panthers, tweeted back at the president over his statement.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio.
