first_img Published: August 31, 2018, 5:26pm Ridgefield West Coast League team names head coach The West Coast League baseball team that will play in Ridgefield next summer has announced its first head coach.Chris Cota was named to the position on Friday. He is entering his 19th season as head coach at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif.Cota’s two jobs will not conflict, as the WCL season begins in June, after the collegiate season ends.“We are excited to add Chris to our organization and follow his leadership on the field in our inaugural season,” Ridgefield General Manager Gus Farah in a statement. “Chris comes highly recommended by many college coaches and colleagues around the country. Over the past 18 seasons, Cota has amassed a 418-298-4 record and has captured the Western State Conference title five times.The opportunity to deliver a great product on the field for our regional families will be extremely rewarding,” Cota said. “I can’t wait to get to the Pacific Northwest and play some baseball.”The team will hold an official unveiling on Sept. 8 at Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex, a 53-acre sport facility that includes a baseball stadium fit to accommodate up to 2,500 people. The team’s name will be announced then.The West Coast League is a wood-bat league for collegiate players with a season that includes roughly 60 games from early June to mid-August.
