Takahashi has however pointed out that Honda is working to combat these size and weight issues for use in superbikes and sports performance models. He further added that if Honda raced two bikes of identical weight against each other, with one using a traditional gearbox and the other using DCT, the DCT-equipped bike would be quicker thanks to the DCT’s benefits of seamless shifts and reduced loss of drive during shifts. Will the Honda RC213V MotoGP bike get a DCT in the future?Takahashi did not disclose exactly haw far in he and his team have progressed here with sources, but he did highlight that even if the Honda DCT is applied in the Honda RC213V MotoGP bike, it would be faster than one equipped with a regular transmission. Should Honda successfully develop its DCT for superbike, we could likely see it offered as an option in the next generation Honda CBR1000RR, which is due for replacement soon.Sources: Visordown / AutoEvolution–Ads– Honda NC700X DCT Honda DCT for superbikes reportedly under development. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin Honda NM4 Vultus Rumour has it that a new Honda DCT (dual-clutch transmission) gearbox specificially for superbikes is currently under development. Honda DCT engineer Kosaku Takahashi was quoted by British site Visordown recently as he states that the firm is presently working on adapting its DCT technology for superbikes.Honda is the first motorcycle manufacturer to have successfully applied the DCT gearbox into its production bikes starting with the Honda VFR1200F. The DCT transmission was first offered as an option in the sport-touring model.Honda VRF1200FBesides the VFR1200F, the Honda DCT gearbox is also primed in several other models including the NM4 Vultus, the NC700X dual-sport, as well as the new and flagship CRF1000L Africa Twin adventure bike. The main challenges in priming the Honda DCT into superbikes lie in the transmission type’s heavy weight and large size resulting from the presence of two clutches. Unlike a conventional motorcycle transmission, the Honda DCT is in fact wider and heavier with current version of the transmission adding a further 10kg in the total weight of the models offering it.

LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – The Los Angeles Lakers will pay tribute to Kobe Bryant today when the team plays its first game since the NBA great died, although details of what that will entail remain unclear. Bryant perished along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in foggy weather on a hillside northwest of Los Angeles on Sunday.“I’m gonna let that play out tomorrow night, let you guys see it,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel told reporters yesterday when asked what tributes fans could expect to see when the team takes on the visiting Portland Trail Blazers.“I’ve been briefed on some of the things that we’re going to see. But I’m going to let that play out tomorrow night.” The Lakers postponed a game scheduled for Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers after news of the accident broke and it is unclear when that game will be made up.Practice on Thursday began with some flag football on an outside field near the team’s practice facility in what Vogel called “therapeutic” Southern California sunshine.“We are striking a balance of trying to make us feel good,” Vogel said. “Laughter is always a good remedy for something like this when it’s appropriate. “We’ve had some of that at today’s workout outside … it’s not the first time we’ve done that but it does feel good to be out there, you know, just a little bit of a change up.“It was really just a warm-up, once we came inside it was business, get back to business and lock into the work.”Vogel said the team is beginning to get back to normal but admitted staying focused on the task at hand on Friday will be challenging amid tributes to Bryant, who played 20 seasons with the Lakers, winning five championships and millions of fans. “I would imagine it probably makes it a little harder than an ordinary game, with all the emotions and that stuff, but we shouldn’t do it any other way,” he said.“It’s the right thing to do, you know it will be an important night for our franchise and for Laker nation.”
Formula One will revert to its 2015 qualifying format at next week’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai and for the remainder of the season, the governing FIA said in a statement after backing down in the face of opposition from teams. The change will be put to the F1 Commission and World Motor Sport Council to be rubber-stamped, bringing an end to a failed experiment to shake up starting grids with elimination qualifying. The statement said International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Jean Todt and the sport’s commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone had accepted the move “in the interests of the Championship”.The teams had earlier shown their unity in a letter to Ecclestone and Todt, calling for the 2015 system to be reinstated and rejecting an aggregate qualifying proposal put forward by the FIA.With unanimity needed for any change to the 2016 regulations, the apparent impasse had threatened to ensure the unpopular new format continued in China for a third successive race unless one side backed down. The 26-member F1 commission groups the 11 teams, commercial rights holder and governing body as well as other stakeholders. This year’s qualifying system, which saw drivers knocked out at timed intervals during the three sessions, was approved hurriedly before the start of the season to add excitement. However, drivers were eliminated while sitting in the garages in the final stage rather than battling for pole on track as in the past, triggering a backlash on social media.Todt and Ecclestone had ruled out going back to the old system at a meeting with the teams in Bahrain last weekend.Williams deputy-principal Claire Williams said then that both bosses believed “going back to 2015 would create more confusion than is necessary”.Teams agreed at the Bahrain Grand Prix to vote on a compromise solution, which would have seen each driver do at least two laps in each of the three phases of qualifying with the times aggregated. The argument was about more than finding the best way to line up 22 cars on the starting grid, however. In a sport that can crunch vast amounts of data in milliseconds, it comes down to power and who really calls the shots, the teams or the FIA and Ecclestone.World champions Mercedes and Ferrari supply eight of the 11 teams, giving them more muscle in decision-making.“The FIA should write the regulations and say ‘these are the regulations. If you want to enter the championship you enter. If you don’t, don’t,” Ecclestone told reporters in Bahrain. He said the change to the elimination qualifying format came at the request of promoters, keen for more action during the early phases of the Saturday session, and a desire to shake up the starting grid.Dominant Mercedes have won 34 of the last 40 grands prix and eight in a row.
