Several Vermont companies were recently recognized for their strong commitment to effective workplace safety at the annual Vermont Workplace Safety Conference. The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Workplace Safety, presented by Steve Monahan, Vermont Department of Labor’s Director of Workers’ Compensation and Safety, was awarded to Ben and Jerry’s of St Albans for Large Business category, Commonwealth Dairy of Brattleboro for Medium Business category, Washington Electric Cooperative of East Montpelier for Small Business category, to Town of Bennington for the Municipality category, and to Engelberth Construction of Colchester for the Construction category.The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Workplace Safety is the highest honor given by the State of Vermont to recognize an employer’s commitment to excellence in workplace safety and health policy and practice.The Governor’s Award highlights the benefits of providing a safe workplace for both the employer and its workforce. “Job safety is one of the most important workplace issues today, and can significant positive impact on worker comp and operational costs and employee morale. The accident blocked 47th Street at noon Friday.A motorcycle rider was able to walk away from an accident at 47th Street and Mohawk shortly before noon today.Roeland Park police were investigating the accident that occurred in the south lane of 47th. Traffic was blocked on 47th Street to complete the investigation.The motorcycle was eastbound on 47th Street and attempting a left turn into KCK when it was apparently struck from behind by a pickup truck. Witnesses said the rider was airborne over the bike after the impact. He was treated at the scene and was able to walk away from the accident with minor injuries.Officers from Roeland Park, Westwood and KCK were on the scene.
