The company said excluding a CNY2.9 billion net loss on asset disposal related to a fibre network upgrade, its net profit would have increased 540.5 per cent year-on-year to CNY4 billion.Service revenue for 2017 rose 4.6 per cent year-on-year to CNY249 billion. Mobile service turnover rose 7.9 per cent to CNY156 billion, which the operator said exceeded the industry average by 2.2 percentage points.Wang Xiaochu, China Unicom’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement: “The company successfully turned around its operating results with significant improvement. A substantive breakthrough was made on mixed-ownership reform and the company saw fundamental improvement in operating results, marching a solid step forward towards its transformational development.”He said the company benefitted from the completion of a capital injection deliverd by the implementation of the mixed-ownership reform, which strengthened its balance sheet substantially.A 41.6 per cent year-on-year reduction in capex to CNY42.13 billion also helped its bottom-line. Despite the decrease, the operator managed to add 110,000 4G base stations last year to take its total to 850,000. Its overall mobile subscriber base rose 2.7 per cent to 284 million at end 2017: 4G subcribers increased 67 per cent to 175 million. Mobile ARPU increased 3.5 per cent year-on-year to CNY48. UPDATED: Governor Says Budget Numbers Back His Prediction

first_imgHELENA – Gov. Brian Schweitzer said Wednesday that the latest revenue figures show his budget projections were right all along and that Republican lawmakers deflated the figure to justify steeper cuts.A Republican leader countered that the GOP didn’t want to spend more even if it had believed more money would be coming in.Last week, legislative fiscal analysts reported state tax collections for the year are about $70 million higher than predicted. All through the legislative session that ended in April, Schweitzer sparred with GOP leaders and legislative staffers over a revenue prediction he argued would come in higher than they were projecting — as it did. Schweitzer said revenue collected through tax season shows his rosier prediction for Montana was right all along. He accused the GOP of using an artificially low figure in order to push an ideological desire to cut services.“When you say something you know to be false that’s deceit. And when that deceit creates financial hardship, that is fraud,” Schweitzer said. “The money was there all along, and we said so all along.”Schweitzer said cuts from the Republican-led Legislature will mean increased college tuition and higher local property taxes to cover less state support for schools.Helena Republican state Sen. Dave Lewis said Republicans had no appetite to spend more money even had they adopted the higher revenue projection sought by Schweitzer all along. He said Republicans did not know revenue would come in higher, as it did.“The bottom line is that the governor wanted to spend more money. I am not so sure that even if we had known the money was there the majority party would be in favor of increased spending,” Lewis said.Schweitzer brought up the 2012 elections, making it clear part of his reason for drawing the distinction is to make it clear voters have a say in choosing sides.“We are going to have an opportunity to review the leadership of these Republicans with their fraud and deceit,” the governor said. The governor said he would not be calling a special session in order to ask lawmakers to appropriate the increased funding. Instead, Schweitzer said he would be looking for ways in his administration to use the extra money in ways he is allowed and that make sense. The governor said he was “100 percent” certain that Montana, with $366 million now in the bank, would not run into a deficit situation over the two year budget period that starts July 1.“If an asteroid hits earth, then all bets are off,” Schweitzer said. Rins wins Grand Prix of the Americas as Marquez crashes

first_imgSuzuki rider Rins held off a ferocious challenge from Italy’s Valentino Rossi over the closing stages to take the chequered flag at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas in Texas.Australia’s Jack Miller on a Ducati finished third.Rins’ maiden win brought Honda rider Marquez’s long reign of dominance in Austin to an end.Marquez, who started on pole, had scored six consecutive victories in the Texan city heading into this weekend’s event, the third leg of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship. But his challenge ended when he crashed on turn 12 of the ninth lap while leading. Rins meanwhile was left to celebrate after becoming the first man to win in Texas in all three categories. He won the Moto3 race in Austin in 2013 and the Moto2 event at the circuit in 2016.“I am so happy I don’t have words to describe how I feel. When I crossed the finish line my emotions exploded,” the 23-year-old said afterwards.“Suzuki has done a great job, and created a wonderful motorbike. And to beat Valentino, who was my idol when I was a kid, is incredible for me,” he added.Italy’s Andrea Dovizioso, who finished fourth on Sunday, moved to the top of the overall standings with 54 points, followed by Rossi (51), Rins (49) and Marquez (45).“I’m sorry I couldn’t get the win,” Rossi said afterwards. “When I saw that Marquez had fallen, I thought it was possible. But in the end Rins was just too good.“It’s a shame because I have not won in a long time but we will keep trying,” added Rossi. Earlier, Marquez had looked to be surging towards a seventh straight win in Austin after rapidly opening up a decent gap from his pursuers. But with Marquez three seconds clear after completing eight laps, disaster struck when he fell, leaving Rossi in the lead.Rins meanwhile gradually closed on Rossi and overtook the Italian with four laps to go.That set the stage for a thrilling duel over the closing stages, before Rins held on to cross first.Earlier, Switzerland’s Thomas Luthi of the Kalex team won the Moto2 race, finishing ahead of Germany’s Marcel Schrotter in second and Spain’s Jorge Navarro in third. In the Moto3 event, Aron Canet took the line honours after taking advantage of a late crash from Japan’s Tatsuki Suzuki.Suzuki had looked poised to claim first but crashed with five laps to go to allow KTM rider Canet to take the honours.Canet completed the 17-lap race in 39min 6.761sec, with compatriot Jaume Masia finishing second and Italy’s Andrea Migno third.last_img read more
