According to Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for Westmoreland, Rev. Hilma Tate, thousands of students and adults are being educated on the dangers of earthquakes, and how they can mitigate the effect. She said that during Earthquake Awareness Week, which is being commemorated January 9-15 under the theme, “When an earthquake strikes be bold! drop, cover, hold”, and into next week, educational institutions, hotels and public community groups will participate in earthquake awareness presentations, drills and a panel discussion across the parish. “What was done and focused on mainly this year, is to carry out a number of drills, as persons have been hearing about what to do and most have an idea what to do when an earthquake strikes,” she said. However, she said that it is very important that individuals practice the response. “This is necessary so that if the earthquake comes, they do not respond as if it were a fire; hence the need to practice the response for an earthquake and know the difference,” she told JIS News. She also said that special training would be carried out at the Savanna-La-Mar Infirmary, where workers will be educated in search and rescue operations. “My main concern is that because we have not been having earthquakes, we know that many of our houses may not be built to withstand an earthquake,” she observed. She also called on more private and public entities including schools, hospitals and children’s homes ensure that they carry out fire and earthquake drills so that persons can better prepare themselves for disasters. “Each institution should have two alarm systems, so that when an alarm goes off, they would know which drill they are practicing and respond in the correct manner,” she said. Jamaica’s location, along the northern margin of the Caribbean Plate, and the presence of very active faults, makes it vulnerable to earthquakes. Oppo is set to bring the Find X to India on Thursday, July 12. The latest flagship from the company is the first Find-series phone in seven years. Oppo has taken its time in bringing out the Find X, and its efforts show as the flagship brings a stunning true bezel-less display with an attractive curved glass back and a pop-up mechanism that hides the cameras and sensors, among other things. The launch event will start at 12:30PM and you can catch the livestream here. The Find X was first unveiled last month in Paris and it looks as every bit futuristic as it was touted to be. The phone has no notch and barely any chin for an edge-to-edge display similar to the Vivo Nex S. It brings an all-glass design with the back offered in stunning Glacier Blue and Bordeaux Red colours. The most notable aspect about the phone is what Oppo calls a Stealth 3D Camera, which is a slider mechanism that raises the cameras in about 0.5 seconds when unlocking the phone using the 3D facial recognition and while using the camera app, among other things. Unlike the little pop-up selfie camera on the Vivo NEX, the Find X has the whole top of the phone slide up revealing both the front and dual rear cameras. This allows Oppo to offer a display that is as close to bezel-less as possible minus a notch and practically no chin for a whopping 93.8 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The Find X has a 3D glass design with a curved OLED display up front similar to the Galaxy S9 Plus. It sports a tall 6.4-inch 1080p+ display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset. It also comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The Find X runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based Colour OS and is backed by a 3,730 mAh battery with support for VOOC fast charging. The cameras fitted in the slider mechanism includes a 25-megapixel front sensor with 3D portrait lighting features and an Animoji feature that Oppo calls Omoji. The dual rear camera setup includes a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor with OIS.advertisementOppo Find X expected India priceWith a premium design and high-end price tag comes a premium price tag as well. The Find X comes with a exorbitant price tag of 999 Euros which roughly translates to Rs 78,699. There is no word yet on what the price of the Find X will be in India, but if its international price is anything to go b, the Find X may sit somewhere close to the iPhone X. That being said, Oppo has typically priced its phones competitively in the country, so the Find X’s India price could surprise one and all. We’ll know more in just a few hours.
