Mystery virus postpones upcoming Caymanas Park raceday

first_imgThe Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) has postponed this Saturday’s race meet at Caymanas Park due to the lack of entries. Clovis Metcalfe, chairman of the JRC, said the meet has been moved to next Wednesday and this was result of a mysterious virus which has been affecting the horses at the track. “It is nothing new because it has happened in the past and the horses have gotten better within a couple of days,” Metcalfe said.”The virus is something that you can’t really pin exactly what it is, but what we can tell is that the horses are eating, but they are running some temperature of a 103 to 104 degrees,” he said. “But we know that after three or four days, the few are going away and they are back to normal, so it is a temporary situation.” A number horses were scratched from today’s races because they were deemed unfit to run by the vet. It is understood that over 100 horses have been affected by this virus. [email protected]last_img read more

Pironkova: The child changed me, I am already a different person

first_imgTsvetana Pironkova answered questions from journalists after defeating Alize Cornet (FR) and qualifying for the quarterfinals of the US Open.– How would you comment on the match?– It was very difficult for me to accept that I did not win in two sets. I realized that I had to change something in order to survive, play more aggressively and shorten the time of the playoffs. It worked.– For the first time you win consecutive matches on hard courts from the tournament in Sydney, where you became champion …– Right?“It looks impressive.”“Honestly, I haven’t thought about it.” It’s amazing that I’ve come so far. It’s hard for me to describe, but I still won four games. Really good achievement.– Your son is not here, but your brother is with you as a coach. What does this mean for you, can you describe your relationship with your brother?“I have a great relationship with my brother.” He is the person I play tennis with most often, he has been my sparring partner since childhood. He knows me very well not only from a personal but also from a professional point of view. He also gives me great support. He is as calm as I am. My career is actually a family story, without the family I wouldn’t be here.– What do you think about the match with Serena Williams?– A very difficult opponent. We have played several times and I have no victory. It will be a great honor for me to meet such a champion and legend. I look forward to this match because I know the feeling will be special. I will try to give my best.– What is the difference between your tennis now and the one before you stopped playing sports?– When I started playing again, I had to work on a lot of things. Mostly for the service, but also on the shots from the bottom of the court. Definitely my mental setting is different because the stress on me is less. I just enjoy the game, and that’s actually the most important thing.– You have a child, did that help you in any way in tennis?– Everything related to motherhood helped me. I became a different person and my attention is no longer on me, but on the child. And that’s good. I think I became more organized.– You have a difficult match ahead of you, do you have to change something in your game?– I do not know yet. I determine my strategy when I go out on the court and when we exchange a few balls with the opponent.– For the first time you are so ahead at the US Open. What does this mean for you? And what is your favorite Grand Slam tournament? – After three years of absence means a lot. Such a result in my first tournament … All Grand Slam tournaments are special for tennis players, at least I think so. Well, for me, Wimbledon is a favorite because I have great results there, the atmosphere and the smell of the grass, the clothes all in white and the traditions are special.last_img read more
